Mabira Forest Reserve is located approximately 26 kilometres from the city of the White Nile’s sources in Jinja, on the route from Kampala, the country’s capital. It is one of Uganda’s largest natural forests, covering an area of 306 square kilometres. It is precisely 54 km from the centre of Kampala towards Jinja.

Mabira Forest is unmistakable from the main road leading to Jinja. From there, a short dirt road leads into the forest, making it easily accessible for vehicles throughout the year.
Mabira Forest is home to over 312 species of different trees. More than 315 bird species, and over 300 types of butterflies and moths. The presence of 23 mammal species inhabiting the forest is also noteworthy.
With approximately 70 km of trails, Mabira Forest allows for hiking, primate and wildlife watching, as well as cycling and picnicking amidst the lush forest environment.
